Microsoft Azure Site Recovery is here!

The Microsoft Hybrid Cloud story got pushed significant steps forward at the recent TechEd event in Houston last month.  A complete list of all the relevant announcements can be found on Yung Chou’s blog.

While it was announced at TechEd, Azure Site Recovery was just made available in preview mode last week.  You can see the Microsoft blog announcement here or visit the Site Recovery page  to learn more.

One of my colleagues, Jose Fehse has already gotten recovery services up and running in his lab.  For complete details, read his post on Overcast on how he accomplished this.

Perhaps what is most interesting about this is that many organizations will be able to build robust DR solutions that were previously either unaffordable or extremely expensive.  I have already had customers excitedly start talking about a future where they could shut down all but their primary datacenter.  For many mid-market business with only a single datacenter, having a second datacenter with near time replicas of their primary was just a pipe dream.  Azure is going to make this very real and very affordable.

I encourage you to take a look at the preview, and please share your experience with the Toronto Azure Group either in person or on LinkedIN.
